Jeremy Shockey hospitalized after seizure.

METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey was taken by ambulance to a hospital Thursday afternoon after suffering what was later diagnosed as a seizure.

"I am OK. Thanks to everyone who has shown their concern," Shockey said in a message posted on his Twitter account. "Don't worry about me. I will be fine."

Saints safety Darren Sharper, who was seen at the hospital where Shockey was being treated, also was with Shockey in the Saints' weight room when the seizure took place.

"It was scary," Sharper said. "We didn't know what was going on."

Sharper said trainers quickly attended to the star tight end, who seemed lucid again after about a minute and was able to walk on his own to an ambulance.

"He said he just felt light-headed," Sharper recalled.

One player told NewOrleans.com that Shockey was shaking and "he was basically out of it for probably a minute or so, but it seemed longer." The player said Shockey seemed aware after that and was walking around when he left for the hospital.

NewOrleans.com and ABC26 television first reported the incident.

It was not immediately clear how long Shockey would be hospitalized.

Last summer, before the 2009 training camp began, Shockey had to be hospitalized after passing out from dehydration at a party in Las Vegas.

Marshall Faulk tells Chris Johnson of Tennessee Titans to keep holding out - ESPN

Marshall Faulk tells Chris Johnson of Tennessee Titans to keep holding out - ESPN: "Faulk: Johnson worth a bigger dealEmail Print Comments2099 ESPN.com news services

Chris Johnson has skipped the Tennessee Titans' voluntary practices this offseason as he hopes to get a bigger contract after his 2,000-yard 2009 season. One of the best running backs in NFL history applauds his stance.
Marshall Faulk told The (Nashville) Tennessean that Johnson is doing the right thing.
'Without a doubt, if more money is what he wants, he has to hold out,' Faulk, who is now an NFL Network analyst, told the newspaper. 'You have to know who you are dealing with. The Titans aren't known for caving in or paying, it doesn't matter who you are. In my opinion, there is no way he can come in and play under the current contract.''

ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky writes about all things AFC South in his division blog.
• Blog network: NFL NationJohnson is expected to be absent when the Titans take part in their fifth practice of the offseason Tuesday.
Johnson has three years left on the $12 million contract he signed in 2008 that featured $7 million guaranteed. But his base salary for 2010 doesn't even put him close to being one of the best-paid players on the Titans, let alone the NFL. Johnson is due $550,000 for 2010."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher is hopeful the team can resolve its issues with running back Chris Johnson by the time practice begins in June.
'I would assume that there will probably be a sit-down meeting between both sides between now and then and we'll see what happens,' Fisher said Tuesday. 'He invited me to participate in his football camp. I told him I'd like him to participate in mine.

We clearly have an issue and we're going to try to get it resolved.

-- Titans coach Jeff Fisher
'I think it makes sense to get everybody together and I think that's what we'll push for. There is no purpose, no set agenda right now. But it would make sense to get together and try to sort things out. ... We clearly have an issue and we're going to try to get it resolved.'
Johnson earned $7.27 million through the first two years of the deal he signed as the 24th pick in the 2008 draft. He is scheduled to make an additional $3.56 million over the remaining three years of his deal."

Jared Allen, seen here in a December 2009 photo, has said his mullet was a 'lifestyle' and not 'just a hairdo.'The Minnesota Vikings' star defensive end, known as much for his hairstyle as well as his ability to get to the opposing team's quarterback, lost his mullet as he gets ready for his upcoming wedding.
'The things men do for love,' Allen told Vikings.com.
Allen, who often says his mullet is a 'lifestyle,' has capitalized on the popularity of his hairdo, selling 'Mullet Militia' T-shirts and including a 'mullet generator' on his iPhone app, where users can try out the 'lifestyle' for themselves.
In a 2009 interview, Allen explained his love and respect for his mullet.
'The mullet isn't just a hairdo. It's definitely a lifestyle. You're carrying on a legacy,' he said 'If I approach you from the front, it's like, wow, that dude is pretty serious. Then I walk away and you're like, damn, he likes to party. With two Rs.'
However, Allen hinted on this Twitter page Wednesday that 'The Mullet' might reappear at some point"

Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson mulling over offers; MMA and boxing on table - UFC - Yahoo! Sports: "Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson mulling over offers; MMA and boxing on table

Buzz up! 1 PrintKevin 'Kimbo Slice' Ferguson (4-2) is at home in Miami and will soon decide what his fighting future holds.

Slice's manager, Mike Imber, today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the heavyweight fighter is taking time off before he takes the next step in his career.

'He has a lot of offers and opportunities on the table, so it's up to him,' Imber said via text message.

Slice was released by the UFC after his second career loss to fellow 'The Ultimate Fighter 10' veteran Matt Mitrione at UFC 113, which was held May 8 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

'I've got nothing but respect for Kimbo,' UFC president Dana White told reporters after announcing his decision to cut the YouTube star. 'I like him as a person. He carried himself really well.'

But he added Slice didn't have what it took to cut it in the octagon.

Imber said he was 'not sure' whether Slice was surprised by the release but expressed gratitude toward the UFC.

'Those guys gave Kimbo an incredible opportunity and (we) can't thank them enough for that,' Imber said. 'Who knows what the future will bring with them?'"

Mike Patterson's truck bursts into flames; is out for the year - Shutdown Corner - NFL  - Yahoo! Sports: "Mike Patterson's truck bursts into flames; is out for the year
By MJD
This will ruin a day.
Mike Patterson's(notes) GMC truck burst into flames today at the NovaCare Complex. The Eagles defensive tackle was not in the truck at the time and no one else was injured, but his vehicle was ashen and crisp after security guards put out the flames with extinguishers.

The Philadelphia fire department arrived soon after. One fireman said that an overheating battery was the likely cause.
That can't be pleasant. A man goes about his day, parks his truck, goes inside and puts in a few hours of hard work, and when he can finally go home and relax ... his truck is sitting in the parking lot, a twisted, smoldering, metal carcass. That's no fun.
The report comes from Jeff McLane at philly.com, and he also passes along that no one was hurt, and no one else's car caught fire.
In the same post, tucked away in a little note at the bottom, is the news that the Eagles released punter Durant Brooks(notes). That, too, would make for a bad day. First you get released, then you go home and read about it, only to see that the news of your firing is a distant, distant second to an injury to Mike Patterson's truck.
Rough day for a couple of Eagles"

Byron Leftwich(notes) is handling nearly all of the first-team snaps in practice, a strong indicator he will be the starter while Roethlisberger serves his six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Vikings QB Favre has surgery on left ankle; no word on 2010 status

Vikings QB Favre has surgery on left ankle; no word on 2010 status: "Vikings QB Favre has surgery on left ankle; no word on 2010 status
NFL.com Wire Reports

HQ video delivered by Akamai
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle Friday, NFL Network's Michael Lombardi confirmed through a league source. Noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery, according to ESPN.com, which first reported the story.
Favre, 40, said earlier this month that his left ankle would require surgery if he was to return to the Vikings in 2010. However, it wasn't immediately known if the fact he had the operation means he definitely will play next season.
Favre had previously said the injury 'is not debilitating' and he has come through far worse during a 19-year NFL career built on playing through pain.
'I don't believe major surgery on the ankle would be required for me to return in 2010,' Favre wrote on his Web site earlier this month. 'I've consulted with Dr. Andrews on the phone, and a relatively minor procedure could be done to improve the dexterity of the ankle, and to relieve the pain. I've put up with pain worse than this in my career, and I didn't want anyone to assume that the possibility of surgery was the sole factor that would determine whether I return or not.'"

A million signatures on a petition would have zero effect on the Titans’ strategy with him or his chances at the sort of new deal he's seeking."

Zach Thomas signs with Miami Dolphins, retires - ESPN: "Thomas retires as a DolphinEmail Print Comments48 Associated Press

MIAMI -- Zach Thomas got the idea Wednesday, thinking maybe he could sign a one-day contract with the Miami Dolphins and retire as part of the franchise.

Thomas
His agent asked the Dolphins. Thomas got his answer within minutes.
So on Thursday, Thomas signed a one-day contract, officially worth $1 -- but in actuality, worth so much more to Thomas, who long lamented not getting the chance to say a proper farewell when the Dolphins released him two years ago.
With that, he finally said good-bye.
'I'm a little bit nervous right now,' Thomas said at the team's training facility in Davie, Fla. 'More nervous than any game I ever played.'
Only a fifth-round draft pick out of Texas Tech in 1996, Thomas became a star during 12 seasons with the Dolphins. He was one of the faces of the franchise along with the likes of Dan Marino and Jason Taylor, who became Thomas' brother-in-law.
Thomas had 1,038 tackles, 19½ sacks and 17 interceptions in 168 games for the Dolphins, and he was chosen for seven Pro Bowls.
'As the team's owner, I want to welcome him back to the Dolphins and I certainly hope he continues to make his presence felt,' Stephen Ross said. 'He's a great role model for our players and we're proud of everything he has done throughout his career to represent this franchise. He gave his heart and soul to this team, and we all were better for it.'"

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Darrelle Revis isn't looking to become the $20 million cornerback.
But Revis is looking to get paid and the Jets have submitted a new offer to his agents. Revis said the Jets forwarded the offer last week.

I have talked to Coach [Rex] Ryan and [general manager Mike] Tannenbaum himself and they believe I should be the highest-paid player at my position. They understand that and I understand that. It is something that is going to get done. The Jets are family to me.'

-- Darrelle Revis
'They sent a proposal over so we are going to look at that and go from there,' Revis said on Thursday. 'If everything is right, if the numbers are right and everything is good, I will sign on the dotted line. If not, if we have to negotiate more, that is something we have to do.'
Revis, who is set to make $1 million in the fourth year of the six-year deal he signed as a rookie, said he won't be holding out for $20-million-a-year as reported by one website.
'I don't know where the $20 million came from,' Revis said. 'I never told you guys that. Don't know who brought that up but I'm sure it is not going to be up in that area. That's insane. That would be great. Who wouldn't want $20 million? But that is a high price.'"

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Brett Favre says he still isn't sure what he's doing next season, but he may have given some indication after visiting with the Southern Miss baseball team.
The Minnesota Vikings quarterback told the Golden Eagles on Thursday morning that if they can make it back to the College World Series for the second straight year, he will return for one more season in the NFL.
Favre has left fans hanging since the Vikings lost to New Orleans in the NFC Championship game. He signed a two-year contract with the Vikings before last season. Coach Brad Childress hasn't talked with Favre recently except by text message.
Southern Miss players have a lot of work to do if they want to force Favre into action. They are 30-20 and need wins to earn a postseason invitation"

Firing back: Urlacher rips Sayers

Gale Sayers is one of the most beloved players in Chicago Bears history, but that didn't stop linebacker Brian Urlacher from taking shots at the Hall of Fame running back.

Seifert: Speak Your Mind
The public spat between Brian Urlacher and Gale Sayers is silly, but both have earned the right to speak their mind, Kevin Seifert writes. Blog

• Dickerson: Tune it out, Brian

Sayers recently criticized Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, questioned whether Urlacher can come back from injury and wondered whether coach Lovie Smith will be fired if the team struggles this season.

"Let me ask you a question: 'How many championships did Gale Sayers win?' " Urlacher told the Chicago Tribune. "How many playoff games did he win when he played? None. None. None.

"Does it bother me? There are enough people throwing daggers at us right now. Why does one of our ex-players have to jump in? There are enough experts talking [expletive] about us, so why does a Bear, an all-time great, have to jump in? I just don't like that."

Several former Bears, including some who now work in the media, have criticized the franchise, which has missed the playoffs in the three seasons since losing to the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI.

Speaking at a booster banquet for Boys Town in his hometown of Omaha, Neb., on May 4, Sayers said:

"Cutler hasn't done the job. Urlacher, I don't know how good he's going to be coming back [from surgery]. He's 33 years old [Urlacher actually turns 32 on Tuesday]. They need a couple wide receivers, a couple defensive backs. They haven't done a good job.

"If Lovie [Smith] doesn't do it this year, I think he's gone. He had a good team the Super Bowl year. Nothing came together for him the last couple years."

Don King wins....Judge bars Mayorga from MMA fight

A Florida judge on Saturday barred former boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga from competing on a Shine Fights mixed martial arts card later in the evening, forcing the entire pay-per-view card at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C., to be canceled.

Broward County Circuit Court judge Marc H. Gold ruled Mayorga’s participation was primarily because of his notoriety as a boxer and that it thus interfered in Don King Productions’ exclusive boxing promotional contract with him.

Mayorga was to fight Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Din Thomas in the main event, and Shine Fights was prepared to go forward with the card despite the judge’s ruling, Shine CEO Devin Price said. But hours before the card was to begin, it was canceled by the North Carolina Athletic Commission.

A commission representative could not be reached and Price, who was in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., at the hearing, said he had not been told the reason. Shine will suffer significant financial losses, but Price said he would compensate the fighters who had trained and were prepared to compete.

“I’m not concerned about the money, quite honestly,” Price said. “I feel very badly for the fighters. They were ready to go and we wanted to put the show on (without Mayorga), even after the judge gave Don King injunctive relief. We felt we had a fantastic card that fans would appreciate. The commission, at the last minute and for reasons I’m not sure of, decided to cancel the event.

“We are in the process of working out how the fighters will be paid, how much that will be. But we’re a fighter’s organization and we’re going to take care of them.”

King, who has promoted Mayorga continuously since 2001, sought an injunction to bar Mayorga from competing, arguing that his contract covered all combat sports and that King would be irreparably damaged if Mayorga competed in the MMA fight.

Gold required King to post a $1 million cash bond in case Shine wins an appeal and can prove damages. In less than two hours, King brought the money in cash stashed in two duffel bags to the court.

UFC 114 teleconference erupts into Rampage-Evans screaming match

Notes: Red-hot heat for ‘Rampage,’ Evans

Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson are barely a week away from what is likely to be the biggest non-championship match in UFC history, in terms of fan interest.

Evans and Jackson added fuel to the already blazing fire on Tuesday, when they engaged in the most heated media teleconference in company history.

People have already witnessed the two former UFC light heavyweight champions trash talk each other more than any two fighters since the heyday of the Tito Ortiz-Ken Shamrock feud.

More From Dave MeltzerOvereem on cusp of something big May 16, 2010 Strikeforce star on minds of heavyweight foes May 14, 2010 ADVERTISEMENT

Last fall’s Season 10 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” in which Evans and Jackson were rival coaches, was the highest rated season in the series’ history. The two were scheduled to end the season with a match on Dec. 12 in Jackson’s hometown of Memphis, the time everyone figured interest in the fight would be at its peak.

But Jackson got the opportunity to play B.A. Baracus in “The A-Team” movie, which debuts in theaters next month, and pulled out. Any thoughts that the time lapse would let hostilities die down, though, were destroyed Tuesday. It was clear, just as on the show, that there is something about Evans that gets under Jackson’s skin. Evans knows it and seemingly enjoys pushing those buttons.

When Jackson was asked if he’s ever fought anyone he dislikes more than Evans, it was a one word answer: “No.”

“I just don’t like the way he talks to me,” Jackson said. “He’s just real fake, and real cocky, you know what I’m saying. For someone who really, he ain’t really done much in this sport, what I’m saying is I don’t … “

Jackson didn’t finish the sentence before Evans broke in, noting that he was a former light heavyweight champion.

“That belt, where’s your belt at?” Jackson said.

And the two were off to the races.

Evans: “I got the belt from the guy that beat you.”

Jackson: “Hey, Forrest [Griffin] didn’t beat me, I beat myself.”

Evans: “You defended the title one time [a match with Dan Henderson], and that fight was horrible.”

Jackson: “Your fight with [Lyoto] Machida was horrible. You couldn’t defend your belt.”

When Evans said the two were at the same level, both as former champions, Jackson wouldn’t accept it.

“Nowhere near the same,” he said.

Apparently, to get under his skin, Evans sent Jackson two packages in the mail, the contents of which neither would discuss.

“I’m a grown-ass man and you’re playing these little boy games, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Jackson said.

WALTERBORO, S.C. -- Former NFL defensive tackle Norman Hand has died at 37 after collapsing at his home in South Carolina.
Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said the 37-year-old Hand collapsed at his home in Walterboro, S.C., about 11 a.m. Friday and died about 90 minutes later at a local hospital.
The cause of death has not been determined. The coroner said an autopsy is planned Saturday. He said Hand's family was with him when he died.
Hand's 10-year NFL career included playing stints with the Dolphins, Saints, Chargers, Seahawks and Giants. Hand, who had 22½ career sacks, was drafted in the fifth round by the Dolphins in 1995 after playing at Mississippi."

NEW YORK -- A woman has come forward as a defense witness in the sexual assault case against Lawrence Taylor, saying the 16-year-old girl who accused the NFL legend of rape never had sex with him, according to a statement from the woman confirmed Friday by Taylor's attorney.
The 23-year-old woman said in a sworn statement that she accompanied an alleged pimp and the 16-year-old girl to a hotel outside New York City where Taylor was staying. She said the teenager returned to the car with $300 in cash and said: 'It was weird ... we didn't even have sex.'
'He's innocent. She's lying. She wasn't raped,' she said in the statement.
The statement was given to investigators working for the defense team and seen by The Associated Press. Defense attorney Arthur Aidala said he was planning to use the woman's testimony in the case"

The NFL could always count on its assistant coaches to show up for work no matter how rocky labor relations became between the league and its players.
That could be changing.
The NFL Coaches Association, upset about benefits changes and the manner in which the league implemented those changes, is considering unionizing.

All we have said is, 'Treat us with respect and dignity because we treat the game with respect and we want you to treat us the same,' and they haven't in any of us.

-- Larry Kennan, executive director
of the NFL Coaches Association
The association sent a letter Tuesday to its team representatives and NFL head coaches apprising them of the development.
'The owners exercised some of their options when they took back our standardized health care, our pensions and rule of 75, in addition to putting lockout clauses in your contracts,' read the letter, a copy of which ESPN.com obtained Thursday. 'The owners also asked you to be supportive of them in their CBA battles with the players; yet we have no say in their fight!'"

Last month we shared with our readers some great tips and photos of the custom fiberglass work that was performed on our '68 Mustang project by Classic Creations of Central Florida. While fiberglass parts fitment can be hit or miss, getting the parts to fit and line up is no harder than trimming them or adding more fiberglass to the part. Frankly, if you cut off too much you can just add some fiberglass back on to it. The same can be said for working with metal parts, but the welding skills required are a little more involved than the basic skills for fiberglass work.
Can you still do it? Of course you can. Prices on welding equipment have really come down in the last few years and you can equip your home shop with a nice 110v MIG welder for $300-$600, depending upon options. A 110v MIG will get the majority of sheetmetal work done with no problems and allow you to modify your project to your heart's content. You want to weld in your own custom cowl vent treatment, or perhaps weld in foglight pockets to a stock front valance? It's no problem with your little shop welder, some bulk metal materials, and some patience"

A big show (we're talking 200 or more cars) can't be handled by just one person. Just because a show has a 'show chairperson' doesn't mean that they are responsible for everything. No, delegation is the keyword and it takes several people to do it right-someone to handle registration, someone to handle vendors, and so forth. Day of show is a whole 'nother monster with lines of cars that need to be run through registration and parked in a timely manner. No one wants to sit in a line overheating just to get into a car show. Not even me"

Abdul-Jabbar says NBA entry age should be 21

OMAHA, Neb. (AP)—Kareem Abdul-Jabbar says the NBA should raise its minimum age for entry into the league to 21.

The NBA’s career scoring leader and center on the Los Angeles Lakers’ 1980s “Showtime” teams said Wednesday there’s a disturbing sense of entitlement among many of today’s young pros.

“They get precocious kids from high school who think they’re rock stars— ‘Where’s my $30 million?’ ” said Abdul-Jabbar, who was in Omaha to speak at the B’nai B’rith sports banquet. “The attitudes have changed, and the game has suffered because of that, and it has certainly hurt the college game.”

The 63-year-old Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson led the Lakers to five NBA titles in the 1980s. Before Abdul-Jabbar retired in 1989, he set the NBA record for career points (38,387), MVP selections (six) and All-Star selections (19

McNabb returns Jackson's barbs with some of his own

When Donovan McNabb(notes) left Philadelphia, he made sure not to burn bridges on his way down I-95 to Washington. Perhaps it's because he wanted to save that for later.

Days after his former receiver, DeSean Jackson(notes), told The Sporting News that he was "very happy" with the decision to trade McNabb to the Redskins and that he doesn't "think we lost anything" as a result, McNabb returned the barb with a passive-aggressive dig at his new NFC East rival.

"It's so wild when people get to talking when you're not there, but when you're there everybody loves you," McNabb said.

"So I guess people will go deeper into it than I will. I'm a Redskin, no longer an Eagle. I had 11 great years and I'm moving on with my life, so whoever may say things when I'm gone, more power to them, but it's not making you look like a bigger man."

Two things: First, I'm pretty sure everybody didn't love McNabb all the time when he was in Philly or else he wouldn't be in Washington right now. Second of all, I thought you weren't going to "go deeper into it," Donovan? Yet isn't that exactly what you did in the sentences following that statement? You can't stake out the moral high ground right before slinging mud. Adding something like "I shouldn't say this, but ..." doesn't give you immunity to say whatever you'd like after.

If you want to go after Jackson, do it. He deserves it. His comments were unnecessary, insulting and will follow him around incessantly should either he or Kevin Kolb(notes) get off to a slow start this year. It's like he set aside fuel to add to a fire that may or may not burn. But take a shot at him, don't cower behind empty words and a media that enables your martyr-complex. (ESPN.com actually wrote the following sentence in its write-up of the spat: "On Saturday, McNabb took the high road in responding to Jackson's comments.")

DeSean Jackson should think the Eagles will be better without Donovan McNabb and McNabb should think Jackson is wrong for believing that. But this is something to be decided on the football field. This stuff belongs in the sandbox

Russell as a Raider, in one handy stat: $100,000 per completion

As he seeks an employment situation better than the one he had in Oakland (pro: the possibly deranged owner really believed in him; con: everything else), I really don't want to pile on JaMarcus Russell(notes).

But Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times went to the trouble of crunching JaMarcus's financial numbers alongside his actual on-field production. So, just as one final recap of the mercifully dead JaMarcus Russell era in Oakland, I'll pass these along. Here's how JaMarcus was compensated for his production with the Oakland Raiders:

Roughly $100,000 per completion and $5.6 million per win.

For comparison's sake, Tom Brady's(notes) total salary last year was $8,007,280, which comes out to $21,583 per completion. Peyton Manning(notes) pocketed $14,005,720 last year, and made $35,638 per completion. They're all ridiculous numbers, but no one's are more ridiculous than those of JaMarcus Russell.

Farmer also suggests that Russell was a bigger bust than even Ryan Leaf, but I'll defend JaMarcus on that one. Leaf is head and shoulders above JaMarcus. If the Hall of Fame ever opens a special wing for the biggest draft disasters, it will be named the Ryan Leaf Center for Scaring The Bejeezus Out Of All Future Draft Prospects.

In total, Russell will pocket more than $39 million for his three years of work in Oakland. He's already been paid $36 million of that, and the Raiders still owe him $3 million more.

But that's the past. What's important for JaMarcus is the future, and I'm sure that someone will give him another opportunity, along with a more stable, positive work environment. He's got some changes he needs to make on his own, too.

The upside is that all of this provides him with the opportunity to become the greatest draft-bust-finds-redemption story ever. Maybe it's not quite the same opportunity he had as a first-overall draft pick, but it's something.

METAIRIE, La. -- Saints coach Sean Payton says he doesn't think now would be the right time for New Orleans to bring in former LSU star JaMarcus Russell.

Payton says it's newsworthy when a top draft choice is released after only three seasons and that players like Russell often get a second chance in the NFL."

Jackson also said: 'I don't think we lost anything, even with McNabb being gone.'
On Saturday, McNabb took the high road in responding to Jackson's comments.

CINCINNATI -- Adam Jones signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, putting the troubled cornerback on a team with a history of giving players second chances.
ESPN.com's John Clayton first reported the deal Thursday. According to a source, the Bengals inserted language in the contract -- which covers two seasons -- to protect themselves in case Jones gets in trouble off the field.
The Bengals said in a news release that Jones would practice with the team Tuesday.
Cincinnati also announced on Monday the signing of safety Gibril Wilson, who had 91 tackles for the Miami Dolphins last season. Wilson's one-year deal is slightly above the league minimum of $630,000 but it also includes incentives.
Jones, who was released by the Cowboys after the 2008 season and didn't play last year, worked out for the Bengals twice this offseason, including last Tuesday. He was selected by Tennessee in the first round of the 2005 draft, but has struggled to stay on the field because of his repeated arrests."

NEW YORK -- Tim Tebow already leads the NFL in one category: jersey sales.
His Denver Broncos No. 15 was by far the most popular on the NFL's website for April. His celebrity clearly trumps the debate over whether he'll ever make it as an NFL quarterback after winning the Heisman Trophy and two national championships at Florida.

Tim Tebow's jersey was the No. 1 seller in April.Tebow is, at best, third on Denver's depth chart at QB. But the 25th pick of the first round still had the best-selling rookie jersey since the NFL started keeping track in 2006. Thirty percent of the orders came from Florida.
The Broncos were tops in the league in merchandise sales on NFLShop.com in April after ranking 10th for the year ending March 31 -- and without any other Denver player's jersey in the top 25.
The draft's top pick, the St. Louis Rams' Sam Bradford, was at No. 9, behind not just Tebow but the second selection, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. The new Detroit Lion, who ranked eighth, is the only lineman in the top 25.
April's No. 2 seller was an old quarterback on a new team: the Redskins jersey of Donovan McNabb. McNabb's Eagles jersey wasn't even in the top 25 for the year ending March 31, trailing even teammate Michael Vick.
His trade to Washington has sparked not just interest in McNabb but in his replacement in Philadelphia, Kevin Kolb. Ready to make his debut as a full-time starter, Kolb was No. 12 in the April rankings."

The million-selling rapper refers to the Steelers' troubled quarterback in explicit lyrics and with the lines, "I'd rather turn this club into a bar room brawl. Get as rowdy as Roethlisberger in a bathroom stall."

A 20-year-old college student accused Roethlisberger of sexual assault following a March 3 incident in a Milledgeville, Ga., nightclub. Roethlisberger doesn't face charges, but he was suspended for six games by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

While Eminem is releasing a new album called "Recovery," the song referencing Roethlisberger will not be included. The song was posted at a website co-founded by Eminem's manager

Cowboys WR Crayton wants trade

IRVING, Texas -- Wanting a trade, receiver Patrick Crayton has decided not to attend any more voluntary offseason workouts with the Dallas Cowboys until something can be worked out, according to his agent, Fred Lyles.

Crayton has requested a meeting with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, but that may not happen until next week. Lyles is hopeful he'll meet with Jones in the near future.

"We'll be in communication with all of our agents and players," Jones said Friday. "We will do the kinds of things we would normally do with our roster from here on out. ... His status is he's with the Cowboys and under contract."

Crayton and backup receiver Sam Hurd had asked to be traded after the Cowboys used their first-round pick in last week's draft on receiver Dez Bryant. There has been some interest in the receivers from other teams but apparently not enough for the Cowboys to warrant making a deal.

Although he will not show up for the voluntary workouts, Crayton will attend mandatory workouts at Valley Ranch.

Man gets life sentence for killing Denver Broncos cornerback.

DENVER -- A gang member convicted of killing Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams in a drive-by shooting was sentenced Friday to life in prison plus 1,152 years after family members recounted the devastating impact of the killing.

Willie Clark, 26, was convicted of first-degree murder in the New Year's Day 2007 slaying of Williams after a confrontation at a nightclub.

Now, when anybody says Happy Mother's Day, it hurts, because my baby will never be able to tell me Happy Mother's Day again.

-- Rosalind Williams, on the slaying of her son Darrent Williams
Rosalind Williams called her son's slaying a cowardly act and said gang violence must be stopped.

"Now, whenever someone tells me happy New Year, it hurts," she said in court. "Now, when anybody says happy Mother's Day, it hurts because my baby will never be able to tell me happy Mother's Day again."

She urged Clark to show remorse for the violence: "Make your mom and your dad proud. I know my son made me proud," she said.

Clark, however, smiled at times as he leaned and whispered into his attorney's ear while Williams and other relatives spoke.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Tim Twining said Clark lived in a gang culture where a simple insult was enough to send him into a murderous rage.

Clark, along with two other suspects, also faces a first-degree murder charge in the slaying of a witness less than a month before Williams was killed.
