Is Donovan McNabb a good fit in Oakland?

The idea of replacing hugely disappointing JaMarcus Russell and journeyman Bruce Gradkowski with perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb is naturally intriguing.

Jody Gomez/US Presswire
Donovan McNabb has said he wants to remain in Philadelphia.McNabb is a much better player than Russell or Gradkowski ever hope to be. If McNabb were traded to Oakland, quarterback would not be a problem area for the Raiders in 2010. McNabb’s arrival would answer one of Oakland’s issues and instantly improve and give credibility to the offense. But does a trade to Oakland really make sense?

There are several reasons this may not be a great fit for Oakland.

McNabb has played his entire NFL career in the West Coast offense. The essence of that offense is to get rid of the ball. Al Davis loves having his receivers running deep routes. That’s why Russell was drafted No. 1 overall in 2007. He had the big arm that fit Oakland’s offense. McNabb is a pro and he can adjust, but he can’t be expected to fling 60-yard bombs regularly. One of the reasons Philadelphia is interested in trading McNabb is because it believes Kevin Kolb is better equipped to throw the ball more.

"Fatal Attraction" Frank Mir is obsessed with Brock Lesnar!... 111 ufc Carwin fight full vs Shane

Really Funny Got to see video.

Carwin vs Mir KO!

Sorry About the assholes talking in the back round....Free is Free!

Part-time fighter Carwin making it look easy

NEWARK, N.J. – If Shane Carwin keeps this up, he’s going to give mixed martial arts a bad name.

This is the sport that takes a lifetime to master. It requires hours upon hours of daily training. It humbles even the greatest of athletes and the strongest of men.

You don’t do MMA as a side job and win championships against the best in the world.

More From Kevin IoleUFC 111: GSP retains belt; Carwin crushes Mir Mar 27, 2010 Ultimate goal in sight for Mir, Carwin Mar 26, 2010 ADVERTISEMENT

At least, that was the conventional wisdom before Carwin came along and blew that school of thought to bits.

Carwin still holds down a full-time job as an engineer and is a married father of a newborn daughter. That’s plenty to make the average man weary at the end of a lengthy day. When other men are calling it a day, however, is when Carwin is just beginning.

On Saturday in the co-main event of UFC 111 at the Prudential Center, he showed he’s pretty good at his side job, too.

He needed just three minutes, 48 seconds of the first round to obliterate Frank Mir, as he had his 11 previous opponents, to claim the interim UFC heavyweight title and earn the right to face champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 116 on July 3.

Carwin had never gone beyond 2:11 in any of his previous professional bouts, and he entered Saturday’s fight with Mir hounded by skeptics.

St. Pierre handles Hardy for five rounds

Despite considerable efforts to convince the buying public otherwise, Dan Hardy was no match for Georges St. Pierre.

In another virtuoso performance, St. Pierre retained his welterweight crown with a unanimous decision over the Team Rough House stalwart in the UFC 111 "St. Pierre versus Hardy" headliner on Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark. Scores were 50-43, 50-44 and 50-45 in St. Pierre's favor. Even so, the champion was far from satisfied.

Carwin mauls Mir

Shane Carwin's impressive performance against Frank Mir earns him a shot at Brock Lesnar.

Shane Carwin still has never seen the second roundThe monstrous Coloradan smashed through Frank Mir in 3 minutes, 48 seconds to win the UFC interim heavyweight championship in the co-main event. Carwin, unbeaten as a professional, has finished all 12 of his opponents inside one round. His latest conquest puts him in position to challenge recovering UFC heavyweight king Brock Lesnar this summer.

"That fight's been canceled two times," Carwin said. "It's destiny that we meet."

Carwin wiped out Mir in the clinch, where he landed a series of left uppercuts against the cage that crumpled the former champion in his tracks. Mir fought valiantly to survive, but Carwin proved relentless in his pursuit of victory. He hammered Mir with heavy punches from behind until he lay prone and motionless, forcing the referee to intervene.

"It's a lifetime of work right here," Carwin said. "I'm speechless. I don't know what to say."

Hey Minnesota, Take Your Pick: Donovan McNabb or Brett Favre

The speculation began when ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio started talking about the possibility that the Minnesota Vikings may not want Brett Favre to return for the 2010 season.

The mere thought that Brad Childress and Co. were done with the one year Brett Favre experiment then raised questions: If not Favre, then who?

Tarvaris Jackson?

Sage Rosenfels?

A quarterback in the 2010 Draft?

How about Philadelphia's Donovan McNabb?

While it's still just speculation, even ESPN's John Clayton is now reporting that the Vikings would seriously consider pursuing McNabb if Favre does in fact retire.

Again, there isn't much substance to this, as Favre hasn't made a decision yet, and as far as the public knows, Favre remains Minnesota's first choice.

Steelers coach keeps in touch with QB

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Mike Tomlin knew where to go even before seeing his nameplate on the table. The Pittsburgh Steelers coach headed directly toward the crowd of reporters waiting to ask him about Ben Roethlisberger.

Tomlin on Tuesday again expressed his concern for his star quarterback, who is accused of assaulting a 20-year-old college student in a Georgia nightclub on March 5. Roethlisberger's lawyer says the quarterback committed no crime. Roethlisberger has yet to be interviewed by police in Milledgeville, Ga., and charges have not been filed.

A little history on the Gators football .

Emmitt Smithof the Gators.
The Florida Gators football team represents the University of Florida located in Gainesville, Florida. The Gators compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

The University of Florida first fielded a varsity football team in the fall of 1906. Since then, the Gators have won eight SEC championships, and three national championships (1996, 2006, and 2008). The Gators have won more games than any other college football team in the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as "Division I-A") over the past twenty years

Henne backpedals from Tebow remark

Tebow
Henne"My judgment is that he's not an NFL quarterback," Henne said Wednesday on Miami sports-radio station WQAM. Henne sounded as though he regretted saying it as the words were tumbling out his mouth. "So I'll leave it at that."

Who is Chad Henne...this kids throws a couple of balls in the NFL,and now he's running his mouth about other QBs.....Shut up, and worry about the NFL stopping that wild cat crap. Then you will have to be a real QB.

Could Lions trust Pacman?

I have no problem with Detroit officials meeting with Adam "Pacman" Jones, as they reportedly will do Friday morning. The Lions are also well within their rights to attend a private workout Jones will hold in New Orleans following Tulane's pro day. The Lions are nearly barren at cornerback and are obligated to investigate fully every option for improving the position.

Jones
Should they actually sign Jones? I'm far less certain about that.

Let's put it this way: Jones has never been reliable in his NFL career. He botched multiple chances in Tennessee, where Lions coach Jim Schwartz was his defensive coordinator, and also in Dallas. He's been suspended for a total of 20 regular season games because of multiple violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy and is almost certainly down to his last chance to play in the NFL.

PI says investigation nearing completion

The criminal defense investigator hired by the team of lawyers representing Ben Roethlisberger after an allegation that he sexually assaulted a college student says he expects his investigation to wrap up "in the next couple of weeks."Charles Mittelstadt told ESPN's Kelly Naqi in a phone interview that he expects "the bulk of our investigation" to be completed in that timeframe. "After that, we would be pursuing the odd lead here or there and revisiting aspects of our investigation that might require some more clarity," Mittelstadt told Naqi.

Georgia police are investigating an allegation brought by a 20-year-old college student that she was sexually assaulted by Roethlisberger, 28, in a Milledgeville, Ga., bar. Roethlisberger's attorney, Ed Garland, has said the two-time Super Bowl winner for the Pittsburgh Steelers has committed no crime.

Crumpler would fill Patriots void

The New England Patriots have agreed to a contract with free-agent tight end Alge Crumpler, according to reports in the Boston Globe and Boston Herald. The Nashville City Paper had previously reported that an agreement was close.

On Thursday, the Globe quoted Crumpler's agent James "Butch" Williams as saying that negotiations between the sides were ongoing.

Crumpler, 32, enters his 10th NFL season, having played for the Atlanta Falcons (2002-2007) and Tennessee Titans (2008-2009). At 6-foot-2, 262 pounds, he has been one of the league's more durable tight ends, missing only five regular-season games in his career.

Once one of the NFL's upper-echelon combination tight ends as both a pass catcher and blocker, Crumpler has slowed down of late. While he was considered a key cog in the Titans' rushing attack as a blocker last season, he had 27 receptions and averaged a career low 8.2 yards per catch.

Is Liddell fighting Franklin instead of Ortiz?

A long anticipated second rematch between former UFC light heavyweight champions and “The Ultimate Fighter Season 12” coaches Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz is apparently on hold.

Liddell (21-7), coming off of a year-long layoff, is rumored to be facing former middleweight champion Rich Franklin instead. The bout, which was first reported by Fighters Only magazine, would be featured at UFC 115 on June 12. Multiple MMAWeekly.com sources confirmed the bout.

UFC president Dana White, however, denies the reports. Saturday afternoon White said the reports were not true, tweeting that the Liddell vs. Franklin, saying they would instead match Franklin up with Randy Couture.

MMAWeekly.com stands by it sources, believing that White’s response may be tied to Liddell’s participation on “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Ortiz’s posts on Twitter during the show’s filming were sometimes rather cryptic, saying things like, “If things couldn’t get worse. They just did!” “Thinking that life couldn’t get any harder? It just did! Another challenge that god has given me! WOW.” and “Many things that challenge us in lives will make us stronger. One thing I can say is don’t ever quit. I’m strong because of my family and fan(s)!!”

Mike Tyson gets a new gig.

NEW YORK -- Former world heavyweight champ Mike Tyson will take flight on Animal Planet with a new sport - pigeon racing. The network this week announced a new reality show that will pit Tyson, a novice pigeon racer, against serious competitors.

Tyson has raised pigeons all his life but will take to the rooftops as a racing rookie. The network says he'll be assisted by a colorful team of pigeon experts as he rears, trains and races them.

The show is scheduled to be taped this spring in New York City and air early next year

Derek Anderson odd man out.

Browns terminated the contract of QB Derek Anderson.

The Browns had thoughts of trying to extract a draft pick for Anderson, but teams knew there was no way he was going to receive his $2 million roster bonus on March 19. Though Anderson has prototypical size and arm strength, he's managed a brutal 48.0 percent on completions the past two years. His 2007 season will buy him another opportunity, but he'll have to at least compete for a starting job. The Cardinals are one team rumored to have interest, and the Bills make sense as well.

Owens, an unrestricted free agent, was said to be on the list of receivers the Bengals were considering. Owens’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, echoed the team’s interest in the six-time Pro Bowl pick. Now the visit is official.

Owens, 36, spent last season with the Bills, who elected not to offer him a contract.

The Bengals also will host unrestricted free-agent WR Antonio Bryant on Tuesday

Would you take Vick for a #2 draft pick?

It's far from a done deal though. Though the bonus covers $1.5 million of the $5.25 million Vick is scheduled to receive this coming NFL season, there's still a chance the Eagles could trade him before the year begins. The team is reportedly asking for a second round pick, a price which may be too steep this far from week 1. Philadelphia may be biding its time though hoping that teams become more desperate as the season approaches.
